Elphin Cronan

Elphin Cronan is a 14.3 hh, grey stallion out of SP Mils Breaban. He was one of our first crop of foals, born in 1992. Cronan is Gaelic for "little dark one", as Cronan was born dark bay.

We heard from Cronan's owner in September 2012. She says I'm glad Vicki has been able to keep you up todate on some of Cronan's children's exploits. He has been a very, very special horse for me. I don't believe there will ever be another one like him.

I know you will understand when I tell you that Cronan is probably the kindest, most affectionate horse I have ever met. He likes to act tough, snorting and prancing, showing off in front of the mares, but when it comes to me handling him, he has never even offered to bite or do anything aggressive towards me. He is quite sensitive, maybe more than some Connemaras, but he understands when I am feeling down and he will wrap his neck around me.

In the spring of 2013, Cronan will be joined by his little nephew Elphin Malachite. Their owner says As Cronan is in his 20's I have been thinking about whether I should carry on breeding, and then I saw that you have a colt out of his sister for sale and the old enthusiasm returned.

We sold Cronan as a yearling, and he stood at stud in Maple Ridge, British Columbia until 2008 when he moved out east for a while. He's now back in central BC.

To date Cronan has sired several purebred foals and is mostly used on TB mares.

Some of his TB and warmblood cross foals are now making names for themselves as eventers and show jumpers in BC. These include Irish, the 2008 BC preliminary level champion, and 2009 BC intermediate champion; KS Priceless, a purebred out of Avenn's Diamond Dee, the 2009 BC preliminary eventing champion; and Simply Irresistable, a 7/8ths Connemara who was 4th in the 2009 BC jr pre-entry divison championships.
